Heritage Hall Museum goes underground. The Michigan State Capitol building completed the expansion in 2020 to include a new orientation center that prepares visitors to tour the historic state capitol. By targeting LEED Gold certification, the state of the art facility made climate conscious decisions to heat and cool the complex with a geothermal system that is projected to reduce energy consumption by 30%. It also incorporated a vegetated roof covering the two-level underground visitor center that blends in with the surrounding landscape.

The underground facility adorned with illuminating skylights required a time tested waterproofing solution to protected the new space. Monolithic Membrane 6125® (MM6125®), the original hot fluid-applied rubberized asphalt, was chosen for its many unique characteristics and proven performance. With MM6125® protecting the foundation, Hydrotech’s Garden Roof® Lawn Assembly was the obvious solution to complete the design team’s vision and bring the 30,000 square foot green roof to life.
