The neighborhood of Far Rockaway in Queens, NY sought to revitalize a site that through careful planning and design could provide a new gateway into the community. With two different train lines on either side of the development, this site provides residential and commercial opportunities by opening up the neighborhood both inwardly and outwardly to the city and local communities. American Hydrotech got involved to provide a solution for the building’s amenity decks by providing our Protected Membrane Roof Assembly on multiple rooftop elevations.

One major concern was the low parapet height and how to fit a full assembly within the building requirements. Due to our long standing partnership with DuPont, a new product was already in development and was a perfect fit for the job. Styrofoam™ Brand Plazamate™ XR Foam Insulation was a key solution for the assembly, this new XPS insulation is able to deliver a higher R-value per inch vs. the industry standard. This meant that the total assembly height was reduced all while maintaining and surpassing required insulation standards. Reducing the amount of insulation on the job also meant that there were few layers of insulation for the contractor to install which increased the installation time; this in turn lead to fewer mistakes, scrap, and rework, which meant that overall construction costs were saved.
