The top floor of the Homewood Suites Hotel was added and approved by the city of Savannah because they have a portion of their building code that encourages green roofs that meet or exceed certain stormwater management criteria. To achieve the additional floor in the building, the following conditions must be met: the green roof must have capacity to absorb at least 1.2 inches of rain, the green roof must have a certain minimum size to achieve the required retention capacity, and the green roof must be maintained by the building owner. Hydrotech’s Garden Roof Assembly was able to make this possible and we were able to worked closely with the design team to meet the challenging and specific requirements.
Not only did a large portion of the roof turn green but the building was also able to incorporate a rooftop pool. Seamless transitions from green space to hard space was achieved using our Ultimate Assembly, which included rockcurb around the vegetation and beautiful natural diamond pedestal pavers.
