With massive growth in the Seattle area, Facebook saw the need to expand their office footprint. The company purchased the existing building with intentions to completely renovate the structure with the help from renowned architect Frank Gehry. Before construction began, additional structural support was incorporated into the existing building to accommodate the anticipated loading of the new vegetated roof decks on levels 7 and 9. The conventional TPO roofs were removed, and new concrete decks were poured and protected with Monolithic Membrane 6125®.

The Garden Roof® and Ultimate Assembly® on level 7 roof is a passive space, featuring serpentine boardwalks through beds of native grasses and perennials, a large wooden arbor, fire pit, and beautiful views of the Seattle Skyline. The Garden Roof® and Ultimate Assembly® on level 9 roof is a more traditional amenity deck comprised of wood decking and a series of large planters to break up the space. The LEED Gold office design emphasizes the stunning natural assets of the site, with sweeping postcard views of Seattle, the Space Needle, Lake Union, and surrounding neighborhoods. Landscaped terraces provide a mix of sustainability performance as well as flexible social space for informal activities and events.
