American Hydrotech was recently featured in Green Building and Design’s September/October 2013 issue in the article "Living Architecture: Five Growing Trends". The article digs into the reasoning behind the sudden growth of green roofs being installed by interviewing experts in the field whom give “five reasons why green infrastructure is looking at a strong and vibrant future”.
American Hydrotech comes in at number four with Prioritizing Maintenance. Dennis Yanez, national marketing manager for American Hydrotech, and Nate Griswold, senior garden roof technical sales coordinator, both express the importance of choosing the right plants for the right environment. The environment can be harsh on a high-rise roof so hardy plants that can handle the rough winds and extreme sun would do well in that type of environment. Griswold and Yanez also talk about the importance of upkeep. Griswold is quoted saying “It’s a myth in the industry that a green roof should be able to exist without maintenance, including watering,” the plants need to be nourished otherwise they will die off. Yanez and Griswold mention that they have seen green roofs fail because of failure to irrigate, planting during the wrong time of the year, and other negligent behavior. In the end, in order for a green roof to thrive proper research and upkeep is crucial.
